Race against time

The central challenge lay in transforming DreamFolks' online presence according to the evolving vision while retaining the current essence i.e. introducing the B2C features while keeping the light on the older B2B features. Previous experiences with agencies had yielded poor results, leaving the company with minimal reusable assets and an unattainable deadline. The pressing deadline, primarily due to their B2C product launch and an upcoming event, pushed us to improvise. Hence we aspired to chase the ambitious goal of creating a user-friendly, descriptive website with interactions, illustrations, and high-quality content, surpassing global standards and competitors' offerings. And yeah, did I mention that the event was in 2 weeks?

My role as the product architect

If we followed the usual process of designing, iterating, handing off, and then developing the website, it would have taken over a month. And that's if we managed to address all the hiccups like system errors, bugs, project handover delays, approvals, and other delays in a large organisation. So, we needed to find a faster way. Drawing from my background as a developer and entrepreneur, I led the strategy, design and development to create an efficient process with quicker feedback loops, clearer transparency in deadlines and better project handover.

Analyzing Dreamfolks' Website Audit

The project began with a comprehensive audit to identify areas for improvement, an ongoing process that will evolve in future case studies as we refine our methods. The audit revealed several weaknesses in the website.

Here's what needed attention:

  1. Enhance visual design: Dreamfolk’s website lacked the premium look and feel expected from a key player in the commercial airline hospitality sector.
  2. Image consistency: Consistent imagery is crucial for building trust with users, but it's challenging to maintain.
  3. Improve interactions: Static websites with minimal engagement often experience high bounce rates.
  4. Optimize information architecture: Clear user flow is essential for conversion rates. Our goal is to streamline communication and simplify navigation to convert users with minimal clicks.

Transparency is extremely crucial in any product development with multiple stakeholders. So to create an efficient feedback loop a shared checklist table was created that not only increases transparency on progress but also provided an efficient way to track reviews, suggestions and iterations.

Leveraging Webflow & AI

Meeting the deadline without compromising quality required leveraging cutting-edge tools.

To streamline our workflow, we turned to Webflow, an all-in-one no-code tool. Its intuitive visual editors and drag-and-drop interface allowed us to build the website without coding from scratch. While I had prior experience with Webflow, mastering new technical functions like SEO and CMS presented challenges.

Creating a multipage commercial website means managing over 50 images with consistent tone and vibe. Traditionally, this would require an exclusive two-week photoshoot. However, with the advent of AI in design, a new era of image production began. To aid our image collection, we utilized tools like ChatGPT, Adobe Firefly, Photoshop AI, and Stable Diffusion to ensure consistency every time.

Results: Analyzing Dreamfolks' Q1'24 Performance

Our strategy was rooted in three core principles: seamless collaboration, transparent communication, and meticulous project management, all while preserving the integrity of the original design. The transformation was profound and far-reaching. By directing our efforts towards concise content organization and intuitive navigation, we successfully repositioned Dreamfolks’ corporate narrative, introducing a B2C model to a B2B focus, thereby accentuating a new feature designed and enhancing user engagement.

However, while these metrics paint a positive picture, it's imperative to delve deeper and explore the nuances that may challenge the assumptions drawn.

  1. Increased traffic and prolonged visit durations, while indicative of heightened interest, do not necessarily translate to increased conversion or business success.
  2. Additionally, while the reduced bounce rate suggests improved content relevance, it may not capture the full spectrum of user satisfaction or conversion pathways. Therefore, a holistic evaluation framework that combines quantitative metrics with qualitative insights is essential for a nuanced understanding of the website's effectiveness.
  3. By prioritising metrics aligned with business goals and user experience, we can derive deeper insights and drive continuous optimisation efforts towards sustained success.

Alternative Metrics

I believe there are other metrics that can provide more value to the research like

  1. Session Duration by Page Type: Analyze the average session duration broken down by different types of pages (e.g., homepage, product/service pages, blog posts) to understand where visitors are spending the most time and which areas may need improvement
  2. Form Completion Rate: Track the percentage of visitors who start filling out a form (e.g., for lead generation or contact inquiries) versus those who complete and submit it, assessing form usability and conversion optimization efforts.
  3. SEO Performance: Monitor changes in organic search rankings, click-through rates (CTR), and impressions for targeted keywords to assess the impact of the website revamp on search engine visibility and traffic.
  4. Time to Conversion: Measure the average duration and number of interactions it takes for a visitor to convert into a lead or customer, identifying potential bottlenecks in the conversion funnel and opportunities for optimization.
  5. Customer Satisfaction (CSAT) Score: Collect feedback from customers who interact with the website to assess satisfaction levels, identify pain points, and prioritize improvements based on user insights.

By incorporating these detailed metrics into our analysis, we can gain deeper insights into the effectiveness of the website revamp and make data-driven decisions to continuously optimize and improve the user experience.
